Part of the Big Dive Collector's Edition, Spanish artist and a jewelry designer May Gañán has attempted to capture in art form the thoughts and actions of a woman about to take a dive, or move forward into the unknown. The meaning behind this wearable art piece can be interpreted in several different ways. Staying true to her aesthetic and design philosophy, May has created a piece of jewelry that tells a story and conveys a poetic narrative made of colors, textures and shapes.
Jewelry pieces like this cuff take days or even months to research and develop, which is why they are truly a Collector's item.
Artist Statement on the Big Dive Necklace:
"Is not by accident that this piece has to be worn on the arm, as the arm is the whole engine of a diver’s stroke. And this piece symbolizes the action of a women diver looking for something. All the strength of her movement comes from her arm. The sequence of silver forged bubbles evoke the immersion, while drawings on top of each bubble zoom into fragments of her face, her eye, her lips, her shoulder and chin. The cuff is a talisman and a metaphor of each forward move while the eye focuses on its objective. The hands reach forward, but it is the eyes which actually make the find." - May Gañán
Three hand-drawn and hand-painted silver and resin bubbles linked with a silk ribbon are attached on tip of a silver bracelet.
